BSc in Quantity Surveying
Alan was appointed to the board of national maintenance contractor Novus Property Solutions Ltd in 2010, going on to serve the business as CEO from 2018. He took the lead for Health and Safety, qualifying with a Nebosh Certificate in General Construction. His role involved overseeing positive culture change in the business; reducing accidents by over 90% and achieving a ‘very good’ rating standard by the British Safety Council.
Projects
As Commercial Director, he led the growth of the business from £55m in 2011 to £162m in 2019. Raising the average contract value from £20k to £230k over the period, Alan was instrumental in diversifying the services delivered by the business from painting and planned maintenance in 2010, to include reactive maintenance, refurbishment and construction. This included new build social housing and one-off housing commissions, as well as multi-million value projects in education and health.
Under his remit for managing risk and compliance, Alan led conformance to ISO 9001 and 14001 quality standards, along with BM Trada fire compliance works and overall responsibility for corporate risk and compliance protocols. He continues to provide ongoing corporate governance support to Novus, following stepping down from his CEO role in June 2021.

Outside of Work
Alan loves sailing, forest walks and mountains – basically anywhere there aren’t crowds! He’s allergic to shopping centres too.
He also enjoys cooking.
