Barnes Hall, Replacement Student Accommodation, Keele University

Student Accommodation

The Challenge

The scheme consisted of the decommissioning of 650 student bedrooms on a rural site outside the main campus and provision of approximately 450 new en-suite student bedrooms in two blocks within the existing campus.

Key Considerations

The key requirement of the client was that the new on-campus student accommodation was to be funded through the residential redevelopment of the rural site.

Once the procurement of a development partner/funder was secured, the focus switched to engagement with the local community, student groups and the planning authority to ensure an appropriate Planning Approval was achieved. Following this, the emphasis was on the new accommodation completing in time for the intake of students.

The Outcome

The offsite Hawthorns accommodation has been disposed of for residential development via an OJEU competitive dialogue process which we managed. The funds generated have enabled 450 new ensuite bedrooms to be developed on the campus within budget and ready for student occupation. We undertook the pre and post contract Project Management, Employer’s Agent and Cost Management roles in connection with the new accommodation.

Results

“Poole Dick adopt a partnering approach, become one of the client team and demonstrate the same passion and commitment for project success as the client.”
